WHAT IS VAT IN THE UAE?
The UAE introduced Value Added Tax (VAT) on 1 January 2018 at a standard rate of 5%. VAT is applied on most goods and services sold or consumed in the UAE.
Businesses act as tax collectors on behalf of the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) collecting VAT from customers and remitting it to the government after deducting input VAT paid on business expenses.
WHO NEEDS TO REGISTER FOR VAT IN UAE?
Mandatory VAT Registration
Businesses with taxable supplies and imports exceeding AED 375,000 in the previous 12 months, or expected to exceed this threshold in the next 30 days, must register for VAT mandatorily.
Voluntary VAT Registration
Businesses with taxable supplies exceeding AED 187,500 but below AED 375,000 can voluntarily register for VAT. Voluntary registration allows businesses to reclaim input VAT on their expenses.
VAT Exempt Businesses
Certain activities are exempt from VAT including residential property rental, local passenger transport, and certain financial services. Businesses dealing exclusively in exempt supplies cannot register for VAT.
OUR VAT SERVICES IN UAE
VAT Registration
We register your business with the FTA on the EmaraTax portal and obtain your Tax Registration Number (TRN). We ensure your registration is completed correctly to avoid rejection or delays.
VAT Return Filing
UAE VAT returns are filed quarterly (or monthly for some businesses). We prepare and file your VAT return accurately, ensuring all input and output VAT is correctly reported and reconciled.
VAT Compliance Review
We conduct periodic reviews of your VAT records to identify errors, missed input VAT claims, and compliance gaps before they become FTA issues.
VAT Refund Applications
If your input VAT exceeds your output VAT, you may be entitled to a VAT refund from the FTA. We prepare and submit VAT refund applications on your behalf.
VAT De-registration
If your taxable supplies fall below the threshold or your business ceases operations, we handle VAT deregistration with the FTA.
VAT Advisory
We advise on VAT treatment for specific transactions, inter-company dealings, imports and exports, and VAT grouping arrangements.
